Soho Boutique, Newbridge, Co. Kildare
Design Brief
To fit out a new boutique in a ‘French’ style to display dresses, shoes and accessories. Checkout area for cash and wrap and a ‘pidgeon hole’ shelving unit for display of denim and other foldable clothing lines. The overall feeling to offer a richness and warmth.
Design Resolution
Dark Walnut veneers and a rich cream were chosen as good complimentary partners for the colour scheme. The high (5m) ceiling gave the possibility of very tall units, with a top showcase area for shoes and a rail system below to display dresses. Each unit was fitted out with pillars, corbels and custom made friezes to mask the internal light fittings. Detailed crown mouldings add a finishing touch. Rail heights are adjustable to preset positions.
The checkout area was designed to support to two tills, a wrap area and a well lit jewellery tray set under a glass insert in a solid walnut top.
Hand Painted Music Room Storage Unit
Design Brief
A storage unit to contain various musical instruments, particularly violins, their cases, sheet music, and other musical paraphernalia. An existing radiator in the centre of the alcove, although rarely used, was to be fitted out as a radiator cabinet within the overall design. The storage unit was to blend into the wall rather than stand out as a piece of furniture, hence the doors were to be without handles.
Design Resolution
Situated in beautiful modern house in Blackrock, Co. Dublin, the house offers high ceilings with detailed cornicing throughout. The music room has a style theme of cream and black with highlights of modern crystal. With a ‘low key’ design brief, we let the functional requirements of the unit initially dictate the shape, tall storage units to either side to house the musical instruments, the space above the radiator to house the sheet music and offer general storage on movable shelves. The high canopy above was custom made to mirror the deep and detailed cornicing, while the door detail of intersecting grooves was picked up from the existing glazing style of the doors. The hand painted finish colour was chosen to blend closely with the wall colour to assist it to ‘disappear’.
Painted Alcove Units
Design Brief
A matched pair of painted alcove units to provide closed storage, shelf locations for photographs & Objet D’Art and support for TV and Hi-Fi units.
Design Resolution
Design motifs from the existing room style were incorporated into the design, particularly the fluted columns and rounded mantle edge mouldings from the stone fireplace. The units were designed to be proud of the alcoves, allowing the highly detailed dentil crown moulding to wrap around the chimney breast with a small return. The door style utilises inset mouldings in a square frame to complement the overall classical look. The paint colour, Stone White, was selected from samples to bridge a pale cream wall colour and the soft white of the stone fireplace.
